Rise of the Hooligan is a new contemporary fusion outfit from keyboard player George Cooper and Leeds drummer Joost Hendricks. Heavily improvised and exploratory in its musical journey, it is hard to define the boundaries that this magnificent duo will be sure to break and re-invent.
The duo will be joined for half of each set by the powerhouse riff genius Kenny Higgins on bass, famous nationwide for his incredible work with Corinne Bailey Rae, Omar Puente, The Haggis Horns and Seikou Keita to name a few.
Since 2009, Joost Hendricks has had a wide and varied career. He has travelled the world, performing in West Africa, the Caribbean and throughout Europe. He has played at some of Europe's biggest festivals including Glastonbury, the Big Chill, Soundwave (Croatia) and Bucharest International Jazz Festival and in 2011 he debuted at the London Jazz Festival, where he shared the stage with improvised music heavyweights Paul Rogers and Mat Maneri. He is known up north most notably for his collaborations with Matthew Bourne, Chris Sharkey (Acoustic Ladyland), and recently as evolving into one of the finest hip hop drummers in the country with The Abstract Orchestra.
George Cooper is known to Bristol audiences as one of the city's front-line innovators, having worked worldwide with such names as Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer, Nigel Kennedy, The Haggis Horns, Martha Reeves, Omar, Lisa Stansfield and now also a member of The Abstract Orchestra. Tonight he is proud to bring two of the finest musicians in the UK down to Bristol to start a musical journey through virtuosity and soul, with a singular vision of achieving a moment that can only be built between open minded musicians and an open hearted audience.
